women in the church
We have it all wrong because we don’t understand how Paul
wrote and what God means.
Does Jesus condemn woman as filthy and seductive? Does He say that our speech is not to be heard?
Does Jesus say that women are less than men? Less morally capable? Less intelligent?

Well, the Talmud (oral Jewish law, Pharisees were famous for
it… adding to THE Law from God)
Nowhere in the OT does God say that women cannot speak in
church.
Go ahead and check. J
Apparently the Talmud does say to silence women. This sounds much more like a Muslim teaching
to me and since they are all from the same line, it’s not a stretch that this
teaching would be in both systems.
The
Talmud clearly affirms the silence of females:
“A woman’s voice is prohibited because it is sexually provocative” (Talmud, Berachot 24a).
“Women are sexually seductive, mentally inferior, socially embarrassing, and spiritually separated from the law of Moses; therefore, let them be silent” (summary of Talmudic sayings).
“It
is a shame for a woman to let her voice be heard among men” (Talmud, Tractate
Kiddushin).
“The voice of a woman is filthy nakedness” (Talmud, Berachot Kiddushin).
“The voice of a woman is filthy nakedness” (Talmud, Berachot Kiddushin).
Does this sound like the voice of Jesus? Do you think this is the kind of thing He
said to the woman at the well? To the adulteress
the crowd was trying to stone? Does it
even sound like Paul? It really doesn’t. It sounds like man’s heart. Like his desire to control and rule over
things. Look around the world and where
greed and corruption flourish man is in control without being accountable to
God. Without a relationship with the
creator of the world who desires an ongoing and intimate relationship with us. What I really see above is that man’s heart
is evil and corruptible if they think that every time a woman opens her mouth
it is sexually provocative. Typically,
in our culture it is men who have the stronger sex drive. I think it interesting that they try to put their
own sins upon the woman.
I don’t see the Bible teaching that spiritual gifts are
based on what chromosomes you have. They
are not dependent upon the sex of the recipient. Thus, woman can have the gifts of teaching
and pastorship.

(THISis really good too, though I warn my Catholic friends, you will not like what she has to say)

And my new mantra for when people talk about how wives are
to submit to their husbands is to reply… and husbands are to love their wives
as Christ loves the church, even to the point of laying down their life for
them. That’s the kind of man I will
submit to!

appliances and marriage
This is a two-fer.
I hit my home appliance topic (see here and here) and my living together topic.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/columnist/2012/10/16/craig-wilson-dishwasher/1619899/
By the way, I tried not rinsing and my dishwasher returned concrete food particles that glistened on my dishwasher. I think there should be a caviat that your dishwasher needs to be purchased with the last decade for this to be true. I don't just rinse, I clean my dishes and use the dishwasher as a sanitising process because I don't like having my hands in hot water (not to mention I don't like drying the now clean dishes). My dishwasher is an original appliance that I think the Caroline Ingals used. I've had to replace the basket where the silverware goes and I have to purchase special crystal powder to go in each cycle to keep the hard water from destroying the inside of the washer (which had a yucky film on it) and my dishes. However, I'm the only one that remembers to use it so I'm always checking the dishwasher and often rewashing things. Sheesh. This all makes me sound like one of those cool wives/mom's I always admire who run this great household and everything is clean and dinner is on the table if not at the same time, on a nightly basis. sigh... One day I might attain such a position in life. But since I'm guessing that will require me putting cooking and cleaning much higher on my To Do list that is ever has been... I won't be holding my breath.

how to clean your washing machine
So, I posted the "outraged" idea that one now has to buy a product to clean your washing machine when said machine basically is filled repeatedly with hot soapy water. One could easily intuit that the machine by it's very job is always clean.
Apparently, I was wrong.

I found that site while trying to relax last night. Listening to a teaching with my daughter and playing on Pinterest. Click...click...click... I do need to clean my washing machine??? Wow, who knew.
Guess what I'm doing this weekend?

binder clips
There is a story behind why this is SO great to me!
The admin who had my position before I did was a hoarder. She hoarded office supplies in a big way. Our division went through a huge spring cleaning and we managed to divest ourselves of 40 filing cabinets!! As we went through them, we kept finding stashes of office supplies; often locked. There was a filing cabinet with one drawer full of pens -- all of them so old, they didn't work anymore and they had never been used! They just dried out.
I think in all we found like 7 filing cabinets of office supplies. The best one was a lateral file drawer FULL of binder clips! All the same size, most of them grouped and put into sandwich bags with 5 little boxes in each bag. I stood there for minutes. I took a picture (which I sadly cannot find because I would truly love to share this with you). I just couldn't for the life of me imagine an instance when one would need to purchase so many binderclips! What possible eventuality would one plan for to have so many hundreds of binder clips? It's not like they are going to be useful in a Zombie Apocolopyse or something important like that!
A coworker, whom I shared this story, just sent me this and I so enjoyed looking through it.
I hope you do too!

hysteria
Um.... really?
This was an uncontroversial treatment?

This was an uncontroversial treatment?
An article about the Top 10 Controversial Psychiatric Disorders
One being: Hysteria
In the Victorian era, hysteria was a catch-all diagnosis for women in distress. The symptoms were vague (discontentment, weakness, outbursts of emotion, nerves) and the history sexist (Plato blamed the wanderings of an "unfruitful" uterus).Thank you once again Internet for giving me a laugh.
The treatment for hysteria? "Hysterical paroxysm," also known as orgasm. Physicians would massage their patients' genitals either manually or with a vibrator, a task they found tedious but surprisingly uncontroversial. More contentious was the practice of putting "hysterical" women on bed rest or demanding that they not work or socialize, a treatment that often worsened anxiety or depression.
According to a 2002 editorial in the journal Spinal Cord, the diagnosis of hysteria gradually petered out throughout the 20th century. By 1980, hysteria disappeared from the DSM in favor of newer diagnoses like conversion and dissociative disorders.
